The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, on Wednesday, convened a peace meeting among the major governorship candidates and political gladiators in the state ahead of the September 19 D-day.

Edo State governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Mr Godwin Obaseki; his rival, All Progressives Congress candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu; Immediate past National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and a former national National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun were among the political bigwigs at the peace meeting initiated by the monarch.

Obaseki and Ize-Iyamu attended the meeting with their running mates respectively: Philip Shaibu, and Gani Audu.

The peace meeting is not unconnected with the palpable political tension in the state following worrisome developments that have continued to headline the news as campaign climaxes.
