The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Friday, has released the names and pictures of some of the inmates who escaped from the Owerri Custodial Centre in Imo State, on April 5 and are currently on the run.

The incident happened on Monday as some suspected hoodlums attacked the correctional facility and police command headquarters in the early hours.

The NCS had also confirmed that the hoodlums gained entrance into the facility by using explosive to blast the entrance of the facility before releasing about 1,884 inmates in custody.

Meanwhile, one of the escaped inmates identified to be David Ubong, a native of Ibaka in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, was re-arrested on Tuesday by operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command.

Similarly, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Imo State, NCoS, had also disclosed that Imo State had recovered a total of 48 inmates. According to him, 11 of the inmates were captured by the Men of the 211 Nigerian Airforce Base, Owerri, while the remaining 37 came back voluntarily.

However, the NCS has now released names and pictures of 36 of the inmates who are still missing.

NCoS shared the information on its official Twitter handle.

The tweet reads: “Faces of persons who escaped from Owerri Custodial Centre, Imo State. Please note that more photographs of the escapees on the way and efforts are on to get clear pictures for the black spaces.”
