The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, has directed Lagos State Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alabi, to investigate the shooting by personnel attached to popular Afrobeat musician Burna Boy, at a Club Cubana in Lagos.

The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday, June 8. It was learnt that the singer was in the VIP section with three women when he spotted another woman and asked one of his escorts identified as Ibrahim to invite her to his table.
However, the lady’s husband was said to have gotten furious over the musician’s advances at his wife. Afterwards, Burna Boy reportedly made fresh moves. It was at this point the matter degenerated to a major altercation as Burna boy’s police guards shot at the lady’s husband identified as Irebami Lawrence and Tolu, his friend.
Lawrence was shot in the thigh while his friend, Tolu, was hit in the head by a bullet.
They were rushed to a Naval health facility, where the doctor recommended immediate blood transfusion for the man. His friends couldn’t donate, as the doctor said they had been drinking. However, two military officer stepped forward to donate a pint each.
The Lagos States Police Commissioner’s Special Squad has also confirmed the arrest of five policemen attached to Burna Boy, for attempted murder.
According to a preliminary report by the Bar Beach Police Division, trouble started when the singer and five police escorts visited the nightclub around 4am on June 8.
About four policemen waited outside while one of the policemen, identified as Inspector Ibrahim, who was in mufti, accompanied the Grammy-Award-winning artiste into the club on the said night.
A statement by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, entitled CLUB SHOOTING IN LAGOS, dated June 12, noted that the officers were in custody.
It added that the IGP has ordered Lagos police boss to investigate the matter and report back “as urgent as possible”.

RE: CLUB SHOOTING IN LAGOS. The Police personnel alleged and identified in the shooting incident at Club Cubana in Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, have been taken into custody and are being investigated for their involvement in the incident.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba NPM, psc(+), fdc, who describes the circumstances surrounding the incident as unbelievable, has however condemned, in the strongest terms, the unfortunate incident.
Consequently, the IGP has directed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and forward his report as urgent as possible for further action.
