The IGP in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, directed the erring policemen, who have been in detention in Edo State, to report to the Force Headquarters Abuja on Monday for further action.

Members of the public, particularly the people of Ekpoma, were implored to remain calm as the present leadership of the NPF would not condone such an act of unprofessionalism and illegality, the statement added.

It would be recalled that there was great uproar on Thursday, after a Police patrol vehicle ran over a handcuffed man and drag him for a while as the man struggled to free himself from beneath the moving car.

The police officers were seen running for dear life after the patrol vehicle stopped and an enraged crowd at the scene blasted the policemen for the the ugly incident.

According to sources, Ehimare was stopped while driving an unregistered Lexus car and allegedly refused to show the vehicle’s papers to the officers instead he reportedly became aggressive, and allegedly attacked the officers, “inflicted injuries” on them and “destroyed” the police vehicle.

Meanwhile, in a separate vein, police have reacted to a video circulating online where eight armed mobile police officers were seen escorting a wealthy VIP to slaughter a cow.

CSP Adejobi in a statement said the trending video is old and that no officers are attached to the wealthy VIP presently.

In his words, “We wish to state categorically that the viral video of a mallam who was seen escorted by some armed Mobile Policemen to slaughter a cow in his compound is very old.

“The video surfaced in the year 2022, not a new one as being widely and willfully circulated on Wednesday, 28th June, 2023.

“The Police took necessary action, even withdrew the policemen attached to him when the video went viral last year. We dont have any policemen attached to him at the moment”.
