Match Day 5 of cricket action in the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup, Africa qualifier was a huge cracker as West African giants battle for glory.

Nigeria won the toss and opted to bat first. Like in the previous match, Nigeria’s opening batters Paul Pam and Selim Salau made the most impact on Nigeria’s total of 184 runs in 47.4 overs.

Pam played 46 runs while his compatriot, Salau contributed the highest individual play, 65 runs.

It was believed to be another simple walk in the park for the host, however, the junior Sierra Leoneans fought harder to shock Nigerian fans.

Sierra Leone’s captain, John Bangura led the fight with 89 runs and not out in a botched attempt to topple Nigeria’s total of 184 runs. Tension was all over the Nigerian side as the Sierra Leoneans had the advantage of more wickets left.

However, the pressure turned in favour of the Nigerian U19 cricket team when bowler, Prosper Useni attacked with deadly blows on the opponent. Six wickets fell consecutively to stop the daring West African rivals.

Captain Bangura held steady form and played not out for a 173 total for Sierra Leone.

With six wickets and 13 runs for Nigeria, Prosper Useni became the Man of the Match and an instant celebrity for Nigeria cricket.
