He said, “We have suspects in custody. We have commenced investigation.”
MKO Abiola was the candidate of Social Democratic Pary (SDP) in the 1993 presidential election.
Though he won the heart of Nigerians at the poll, winning the popular vote, the election was annulled by the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida.
Abiola later declared himself as president and the chaos of June 12 ensued throughout the country, running into many years.
He died in controversial circumstance on July 7, 1998, just a month after General Sani Abacha who was at the helms then had died in office.
Recall President Muhammadu Buhari had in 2018 honoured MKO Abiola posthumously as hero of democracy in the country.
Buhari also tendered a national apology to the family of the late African philanthropist, for the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, adjudged to have been won by MKO Abiola.
