Vice-chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mr. Samuel Kayode, popularly known as Ekpo Kinkin, on Friday has been murdered by some unidentified armed men in Lagos State.

Kayode, who was also a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was gunned down while attending the flag off of the party’s local government campaign at Oriade Local Development Area,(LGA) of Lagos State.

Present at the meeting were top officials of the party, including the Chairman of the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Mr Valentine Buraimo.

According to reports, some yet to be identified armed men stormed the event, shooting sporadically into the air and causing panic. The incident caused palpable panic as many individuals around the vicinity took to their heels for safety.

Kayode was later found lying helplessly on the floor. It was gathered that the bullet hit him in his leg.

He was immediately rushed to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Navy Town, Ojo, to receive medical attention, however, all efforts proved abortive as he was confirmed dead.

NURTW Lagos State command has also confirmed the incident.

According to the union, Kayode was protecting his fellow politician, Mr Wale Yusuf during the attack, when he was hit by the bullet from the armed men.

“He was protecting a fellow politician, Wale Yusuf, from harassment when the gunmen shot him dead,” said Jimoh Buhari, the spokesman for the NURTW Chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya.
