In a major drug bust operation, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA have intercepted three trailer loads of opioids, amounting to 3,450,000 pills and 344,000 bottles of codeine syrup in Abule Ado, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Mr. Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy of the Agency, the illicit drugs were discovered in two 40-foot container trucks and a 20-foot truck at the AML bonded terminal in Abule-Osun, near the International Trade Fair complex.
The trucks were en route to a large warehouse located in Abule-Ado, where NDLEA officers swooped in and recovered the opioid consignments on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
According to the statement, three suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure. They include the warehouse agent, Mr. Cosmas Obiajulu, and truck drivers Mr. Ridwan Balogun and Mr. Banjo Tayo. The third driver managed to evade arrest.
In another operation, men of the anti-nacortics agency on Friday, May 10, 2024 apprehended a 75-year-old man, Jibril Audu, in Oke-asa village, Ijero-Ekiti, Ekiti state, with 7.5 kilograms of cannabis in his possession.
Furthermore, on Thursday, May 9, a 70-year-old woman, Tikwase Nytor, was nabbed during a raid operation in Achusa and the International Market road in Makurdi, Benue state, with 15.6 kilograms of cannabis.
