The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) both engaged in fierce arguments over whose detention facility the convicted former chairman of the now-defunct Pension Reforms Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, should be incarcerated.

The operatives of the two agencies argued with each other, with both insisting on take custody of Maina.

Earlier, The New Diplomat had reported that a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, convicted Maina of money laundering.

The presiding judge, Justice Okon Abang, in his ruling sentenced Maina to 61 years’ imprisonment.

The court found him guilty of inducing staff of Fidelity Bank to open bank accounts for him without conducting due diligence and money laundering.

Briefly after the court proceedings, operatives from both the EFCC and NCoS had an altercation while attempting to take custody of Maina.

The operatives of EFCC argued that Maina should be in their custody while the operatives of the NCOS insisted that he must served his jail time in their facility.

It was however gathered that after the back-and-forth confrontation, Maina was eventually taken away from the court premises in the vehicle of the NCoS.
