A media entrepreneur and the founder of Roots Television Nigeria, Dumebi Kachikwu, has clinched the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Kachikwu scored 977 votes to defeat former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN), Prof Kingsley Moghalu, who polled 589 votes and Chukwuka Monye came third with 339 votes at the primary exercise in Abeokuta on Wednesday night.

The Delta born politician won the presidential ticket against all odds. Many had tipped Moghalu to clinch the ticket in a landslide victory.

However, Kachikwu came out victorious, defeating 11 other aspirants who contested for the presidential ticket.

In his acceptance speech, he said he is on a ‘’rescue mission’’ to savage what the All Progressives Congress (APC), had destroyed in the last seven years, promising to initiate wide-range public service reforms to eradicate corruption and win the war against terrorism.

He also promised to create equal opportunities for men and women and an improved welfare package for teachers and initiate a technology-driven education and healthcare system to stop medical and education tourism abroad.
