Some unidentified armed men suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) have reportedly revenged the murder of their late commander, Ikonso by killing a middle-aged man alleged to be one of the informants who gave out the late commander to a joint team of Nigerian security agencies.

According to a source quoted by SaharaReporters, the alleged informant, whose name was yet to be ascertained, was gunned down in a village between Imo and Anambra states, where he was hiding.

“The victim is alleged to be the informant the military and the police used in getting Ikonso’s location and in killing him. Some said the informant was also a member of the ESN but others said he was a former IPOB member, renounced them and came to the village to hide. But he has now been killed,” a source stated.

Recall that The New Diplomat had reported that, on April 24, a joint team of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Nigerian Army and Department of State Services (DSS) stormed the operational headquarters of ESN located in Awomama Village, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo.

The ESN is a militia wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The joint team of the Nigerian security agencies, engaged the ESN in a fierce gun duel, which led to the death of the leader, Ikonso and six other operatives of the ESN.

Also, six AK47 rifles, hundreds of ammunition of different caliber, bulletproof charms, among others, were recovered from the group.

The IPOB and ESN have also been alleged to have orchestrated the several recent cases of attack on public institutions in the south east.

The South East region is currently experiencing surging cases of destruction, killings, among others. Many Police Stations, Correctional centers, Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) offices, private buildings, among others have been destroyed by some hoodlums in recent times.

Several intelligence officers have linked the attacks to the militia wing of IPOB.
