  • Say It Has Arrested Suspects In Connection With Killing

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the death of a Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, AIG Christopher Dega (Rtd.).

The New Diplomat had earlier reported that Dega was murdered by some unidentified armed men in Jos, the Plateau State Capital.

Confirming the incident, the Police Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Plateau command, Ubah Ogaba, disclosed that the armed men shot Dega in an isolated restaurant at Bukuru, Jos, on Monday.

According to Ogaba, Dega was murdered at about 8:30 pm on Monday. According to him, the preliminary investigation has revealed that the armed men trailed Dega who travelled from Makurdi, Benue State, to Jos, on Monday.

The PPRO in a statement issued on Wednesday also disclosed that the command has arrested some suspects in connection with the crime.

The statement reads, “The Plateau State Police Command on a sad note received an ugly report of the death of AIG Christopher Dega (Rtd).

“On 31/05/2021 at about 2030hrs, AIG Christopher Dega (Rtd) was shot dead by three yet to be identified gunmen in an isolated restaurant at Bukuru, Jos.

“From the investigation so far, it appeared that he was trailed and shot.

“He arrived at Jos from Makurdi on the same date at about 1930hrs.

“Some suspects have been arrested. Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing.”

This latest killing comes few days after a former presidential aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak was murdered in Owerri, Imo State.
