Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has lost his bid to represent the northern senatorial district of the state.

Ayade who polled 52 votes was defeated by Adams Cecelia who polled 140 votes.

This was also contained in a result sheet sighted by The New Diplomat.

Ayade, has thus become the first seating governor to lose a senatorial primary election in Nigeria.

On April 26, he declared his interest to run for the office of the President.

Recall also that he dumped the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in May 2021.
