A self-acclaimed leader of the Biafra Republic, Simon Ekpa, has been arrested in Finland by police authorities.

According to reports emerging from Finland, Ekpa, a Finnish-Nigerian separatist agitator, was said to have been arrested alongside four other individuals for alleged terror-related offenses.

Ekpa is currently said to be in custody at the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland on charges of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.

In a statement released on Thursday, November 21, the Finnish Central Criminal Police has also confirmed the arrest of five individuals suspected of terrorist activities.

The police statement stated: “Claims will be heard in Päijät-Häme district court today, November 21.

The statement explained that the ongoing investigation is regarding “a Finnish citizen of Nigerian background, born in the 1980s, suspected of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent. The police suspect that the man has promoted his efforts from Finland by means that have led to violence against civilians and authorities as well as other crimes in the region of South-Eastern Nigeria.”

It would be recalled that Ekpa has been parading himself as leader of the separatist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) since the arrest and continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu.

Ekpa had severally taken to his social media channel to reel out instructions to IPOB members in the south-east.
