The Edo State Police has explained how a plot by a group of some notorious kidnappers to kidnap an expatriate working at Okomu Oil Plantation in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State was foiled.

Five members of the suspected kidnapping gang were killed by the police during the operation.

A statement weekend in Benin by the spokesman, Mr. Bello Kontongs explained that acting on a tip of, a team of crack policemen led by the commander, lntelligence Response squad swiftly swung into action and mobilized to the gang members’ hideout.

According to Bello, a superintendent of police, on sighting the policemen, the suspected kidnappers opened fire on them, adding that in an ensuing gun duel, the operatives killed five of the suspected hoodlums while others escaped with gun shots injuries.

The Edo Police image maker disclosed from the suspects included one AK 47 assault rifle, one single barrel cut to size gun, one long barrel gun and eight live cartridges.

He said that rigorous bush combing to track other fleeing gang members for possible arrest is ongoing.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abutu Yaro who reinstated the commitment of the police to the protection of residents, thanked the public for prompt information which eventually led to the neutralizing of the criminal elements.
