How DSS Stopped IPOB’s US Attorney From Visiting Kanu — Lawyer

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the Lead Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, has claimed the officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) have disobeyed a court-ordered visit to the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB).

Ejiofor said the DSS on Thursday ensured that IPOB’s Attorney in the United States, Bruce Fein, didn’t see Kanu.

He made this allegation via his Facebook page on Friday.

“Yesterday’s court-ordered visit to our client- Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu – was aborted by the officials of the State Security Services on a reason we find extremely ridiculous.

“Following the arrival of Mr Bruce Fein, a foremost American trained Constitutional Law Lawyer and IPOB’s Attorney in the United States of America, the game obviously took an interesting twist.

“Despite our formal notification to the Service, in line with the existing protocol, and in compliance with the Court-Ordered guideline, the officials of the Department of State Security Services came up with an excuse, “that the person assigned to receive us during yesterday’s visit was on A SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT”, and as such, the visit cannot be conducted.

“This is not only ridiculous but a clear violation of the court order on the guideline for visiting our Client- Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“For the records, we have been consistently visiting Our Client on the specified days and time of the week, and there hasn’t been any time we were denied access to him on the ground that an individual assigned to receive us was not available.

“Needless to mention, that no one individual has been specifically assigned to receive us on any of the visits. They are fully aware that the visit takes place every Monday and Thursday.

“Thankfully, we have another date for Monday, and we do hope that this individual will be available on Monday to receive us, whilst we have taken steps to formally bring this latest infraction to the attention of the Court.”

The DSS is yet to respond to the allegations.

Meanwhile, amid concerns in the Southeast, IPOB recently declared September 14 for its self-styled sit-at-home order in South-Eastern Nigeria.

The pro-Biafra group told residents to boycott commercial and social activities.

This was confirmed in a statement issued by its Head, Directorate of Service, Mazi Chika Edoziem.

Edoziem said the order is a memorial of the massacre carried out by the military men three years ago in the region, especially in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

The statement reads, “We recall very vividly the carnage of September 12, 2018, by the Nigerian Army which through its ‘Operation Python Dance II’ without any provocation and any reason whatsoever invaded and occupied Biafraland humiliating, maiming and massacring our people.

“It is still fresh in our minds when on the 14th of September, these murderers and terrorists in army uniform went further to desecrate the traditional stool of the Afaraukwu Kingdom in Umuahia shooting and killing everything in sight resulting in the cold-blooded murder of more than 38 Biafran youths and arrest of an unspecified number of Biafran men and women.

“Recall that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide has since 2018 set aside September 14 of every year as a day of civil disobedience in the whole of Biafraland.

“Following the well-established custom, September 14, 2021, is declared a sit-at-home in Biafraland.”
