With the development, Yusuf will fly the PDP’s flag in the upcoming General election for the Kogi West senatorial district.

Melaye who took to his official twitter account, congratulated Yusuf for winning the election. He also appreciated his supporters for voting for him.

He tweeted, “The Primary has been fought and won. I congratulate Hon. T.J YUSUF and thank all those who voted in the first and second ballot for me. The Gang up is unimaginable but l give God praise. God bless you all. SDM”

Recall that Melaye was kicked out of the 9th Senate after the Kogi State National Assembly election tribunal nullified the election that produced him as the Senator representing Kogi West, on grounds of irregularities, over voting and non-compliance with the electoral acts.

They subsequently ordered a rerun election. In the rerun election, Melaye lost to his political rival, Smart Adeyemi.

Since the defeat, Melaye has not been a regular in the Nigeria’s political scenes until recently when he declared his intention to contest for the position he lost in 2019.
