Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has narrated how he benefit from President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2022 Electoral Act which was signed into law that paved the way for the 2022 governorship election in the state to be conducted ‘free and fair’.

Adeleke made the disclosure during his “Thank You” visit to Buhari in State House, Abuja, on Friday.

According to the governor, he visited Buhari to thank him for assenting to the 2022 Electoral Act in May 21, 2022 which made him to be elected as the governor of Osun State.

The law has been praised for certain provisions that tend to improve the electoral process.

In his words, “I am happy to tell you that I just saw our president, looking so well, looking so good and I am happy about that.

“Since my election, I feel like I should come and say hello to Mr President and thank him for signing that Electoral Act because I benefited from it. That paved way for free and fair elections and the international community is applauding Nigeria, that Nigeria is set for democracy.

“We just greeted and some of the other things, I already submitted and I will see the Chief of Staff for us to discuss on the way forward for the federal government to assist Osun State,” he said.

It would be recalled that the Electoral Act had been a bone of contention for a while as elected legislators in both the Senate and the House of Representatives as well as other political figures were unintentionally excluded from voting in their various parties’ primaries going by the provisions of the 2022 electoral act.

However, with few days to the primaries in various political parties to kick-off, politicians have reportedly been pressuring the president to sign the amended Act into Law in order to address growing political concerns as well as avert a likely precarious political tight-rope.
