Hon. Solomon Awhinawhi has won the Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency PDP Rerun Primary ordered by the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party, Abuja.

The rerun primary which was held at the Ughelli Township Stadium on Monday, May 30, was won by Awhinawhi who polled a total of 80 votes to defeat Hon. Taleb Tebite to the second position with 3 votes.

It would be recalled that the Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency PDP Primary was first held on May 22, at the same venue and Tebite was declared the winner with 34 votes while Awhinawhi polled 30 votes. Hon. Samuel Mariere scored 26 to place third in the first primary.

The New Diplomat however learnt that the NWC of the party received a petition from one of the aspirants alleging irregularities in the first primary held on May 22, a situation which made the party organ to order a rerun of the primary.

In a statement issued by the Delta State Publicity Secretary of the party, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza on Sunday, May 29, stated that a rerun primary has been ordered, adding that it was scheduled for Monday, May 30, 2022, at the Ughelli Township Stadium by 1 pm.

While the statement did not disclose the reason for the rerun, it referred to a decision of the Appeal Committee of the party which sat over a petition concerning the election which earlier declared Hon. Tebite.

The rerun primary was conducted by a 3-man committee from the national headquarters of the party led by Prof. Collins Okafor. It was also observed by officials from INEC.

Okafor who was also the Returning Officer declared Hon. Solomon Awhinawhi as the winner of the rerun primary.
