The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) not to go ahead with its planned industrial action.
This comes after talks between the federal government and the NLC failed last week and the later are not backing down.
It would be recalled that a few weeks ago, the NLC had embarked on a two-day warning strike to push home their demands following the removal of fuel subsidy on May 29.
The NLC is asking the government to exempt public sector workers from tax, pay allowances to workers, reduce the cost of governance, provision of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), buses, release of modalities for N70 billion for Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs, release of officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) by the police and vacation of occupation of Police-backed interlopers, among others.
However, the Speaker during plenary on Tuesday said the House will intervene on the matter for a possible resolution.
He noted that the government is doing everything possible in ensuring that the economic hardship caused by the removal of subsidy is addressed.
Although the strike is scheduled to commence today, the NLC is yet to give the green light.
