By Agency Report

Nigeria’s House of Representatives is to constitute an ad-hoc committee to investigate the spate and rate of fuel price increases.

The resolution on Wednesday followed a motion of urgent importance by Ikenga Ugochinyere at plenary.

Ugochiyere, in his motion, frowned at what he described as untold hardship the incessant price hikes have caused Nigerians since the removal of petrol subsidy.

The lawmaker noted that the attendant rising cost in transportation, if not urgently checked, could lead to an astronomical increase in food prices.

The House, therefore, resolved to set up an ad-hoc committee that will invite the Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, and relevant stakeholders to explain the sharp and frequent price increases.
