An unknown assailant, on Friday, allegedly killed the Chairman of Agadama in Uwheru Kingdom, Ughelli North local government area of Delta State in an orchestrated dynamite attack.

The attacker reportedly murdered the community chairman, Sunday Iniovogoma while he was asleep.

It was learnt that the assailant blew up the community chairman with a dynamite that exploded and shook the foundation of houses in the community.

Sources from the family who confirmed the blast which destroyed part of the community leader’s house, disclosed that the assassin gained entry into his room through his children’s apartment while he was taking his siesta.

A source from the community said that the alleged killer of the late chairman detonated the explosive device through the victim’s window while he was sleeping, blasting his face, hands and legs.

It was gathered that part of the building was also shattered.

It would be recalled that the late chairman, played an active role in the campaign against armed Fulani herdsmen who killed ten farmers in the community in February.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident occurred at about 12:30p.m on Friday, adding that some other persons who were around the house when the explosion occurred also sustained some degrees of injuries.

Giving details of the incident, the source said: “He was sleeping in his bedroom inside his house when the blast occurred.

“It appears that the perpetrators of the act apparently threw the dynamite into his bedroom while he was sleeping and exploded damaging part of the building and killed the chairman at the spot.”

State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Onome Onowakpoyeya could not be reach immediately to confirmed the incident but police officers from Ughelli Area Command who preferred anonymity confirmed it.

Meanwhile, hundreds of commuters travelling to riverine communities in Bomadi, Burutu local government areas of Delta State and parts of Bayelsa State were on Friday stranded as youths from Agadama community barricaded the Uwheru/Bomadiand East – West road in protest of the death of the chairman.
