President GoodLuck Jonathan saved Nigeria from bloodshed by conceding defeat to   Muhammadu  Buhari of All Progressives Congress (APC), says Sen. Walid Jibrin, a PDP stalwart.

Jibrin, who is also the PDP Board of Trustee (BOT) Secretary, said this on Tuesday while speaking with the  News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in his country home Nasarawa, Nasarawa Local Government Area of the  state.

He called on politicians to emulate Jonathan by accepting the outcome of the March 28 and April 11  elections  in good fate, in order to forestall post-election violence and in the interest of peace and development.Jonathan Saved Nigeria

“For Jonathan to accept defeat when he lost his second-term presidential ambition to Buhari, he has saved Nigeria from post-election violence and bloodshed.

“The acceptance of the defeat does not only save Nigeria from post-election crisis but it also gave Jonathan a high level of respect from all Nigerians and even the international community

“This shows that Jonathan is a true democrat, who has the interest of Nigerians at heart and we will continue to pray for him and other elected leaders to enable them to succeed.

“I also want to call on all stakeholders and other Nigerians to do everything possible to be at peace, because no nation can achieve development without peace, which is not negotiable.”

Jibrin expressed optimism that the PDP would bounce back in the future and urged the supporters of the party to unite and embrace one another, irrespective of their backgrounds.

He explained that PDP government, since its inception in Nigeria, had done a lot in fighting poverty, hunger, unemployment as well as promoting peace and boosting socio-economic development.

The PDP BOT secretary said that Jonathan demonstrated a high level of maturity by conceding defeat and urged other politicians to always emulate him.

Jibrin urged the party’s supporters and other Nigerians to be law abiding, respect constituted authority, live in peace and tolerate one another, irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.
