Even a person with the most stoical of resolves will break down in tears as stream of sympathisers flow into the house of the late former Director-General of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ibrahim Zakari as tragedy struck the deceased’s family again.

This is as, in a tragic turn of events, the youngest son of the former ambassador died on Sunday evening, just hours after his father’s death.

It was gathered that a grief-stricken Mubarak, aged 34, succumbed to heartbreak following the death of his late father which took emotional toll on him.

The unpleasant development has left family and sympathisers in shock.

The New Diplomat had reported how Ambassador Zakari, aged 81, passed away in the early hours of Sunday in Abuja.

His remains were transported to his hometown of Katsina for burial later that afternoon and buried according to Islamic rites.

The late former NIIA DG’s drew tributes from prominent Nigerians, particularly the Katsina state government which described him as an “illustrious son” of the state.

However, hours after the interment of the older Zakari, his last child counted as one of his survivors died too.

Mubarak was reportedly hale and hearty prior to his father’s death and interment.

He is even said to have accompanied his father’s remains, along with other family members and mourners, to Katsina from Abuja.

The younger Zakari’s demise has worsened the family’s loss shattering the solace they were initially taking in the fullness and ripeness of the life of the late ambassador.

Funeral prayer was held for Mubarak on Monday at the family’s residence in GRA, Katsina

The death of Mubarak, on the heels of his father’s, has left the Katsina community in disbelief.

Friends, family, and well-wishers have continued to pour into the Zakari family residence to offer condolences and prayers.
