Erling Haaland also marked his first Manchester Derby with an impressive hat-trick, as Manchester City thrashed local rivals Manchester United 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium with Phil Foden also bagging a hat-trick.

Haaland and Phil Foden both took home match balls, as the Blues emphatically ended United’s four-game winning streak to extend their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Haaland, who signed from Borussia Dortmund for £51 million this summer, has now scored hat-tricks in his past three Premier League home matches.

City began the game on the front foot as Foden smashed City in front barely 10 minutes into the game, two goals late in the first half from Haaland put City into an unassailable four-goal lead at half-time.

The 22-year-old powered home a header in the 34th minute, and three minutes later turned Kevin De Bruyne’s cross into the net.

As well as extending his goalscoring tally to 17 for the season, the City striker also assisted fellow hat-trick hero Phil Foden on two occasions.

Despite Antony scoring for United shortly after half-time to make it 4-1, Haaland and Foden both secured their hat-tricks, as City moved into a 6-1 lead.

United would score two further late consolation goals through Anthony Martial but suffered a humiliating third straight loss to their local rivals.

City’s victory moves them one point behind league leaders Arsenal.

Haaland’s hat-trick in his first Manchester Derby was the Norwegian’s third in the Premier League.

Reflecting on his latest hat-trick post-match, Haaland said: “Yeah, not bad! We scored six goals! What can I say? It’s amazing. To win at home, scoring six goals, it’s nice.

“You can feel it all the time. You can see the passes we give each other. We always want to go forward and attack. It’s what I love about the team. In the end, it’s amazing. There is nothing more to say.”
