The political crisis rocking Rivers State continues to take a dangerous dimension as the newly elected Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government, Israel Abosi, stormed the local government’s secretariat amid heavy gunshots.

In a viral video sighted by the New Diplomat Abosi was seen in the company of some suspected armed men who shoot sporadically into the air.

The newly elected chairman stormed the secretariat after some suspected hoodlums had burnt down some buildings early on Monday.

It would be recalled that the newly built Ikwerre LGA secretariat, located in Isiokpo, the office of the chairman, was set ablaze and properties looted by some suspected thugs following the conclusion of the local government election in Rivers State.

However, in the viral video, Abosi was sighted making bold moves to take back control of the council.

It would be recalled that on Monday, violence was recorded in at least four local government areas of Rivers State.

The New Diplomat had reported that parts of the buildings in Eleme, Ikwerre, and Emohua council premises were set ablaze by some suspected political hoodlums.

Gunshots were fired sporadically in Obio-Akpor and Ahoada East LGAs leaving many to run for safety.

The development came after the conclusion of the Rivers State Local Government election.

The Action People’s Party (APP) won 22 chairmanship positions out of 23 in the oil-rich state while the Action Alliance (AA) won a seat.
