Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun and Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, have received the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

The Ogun State Government had received the delivery of about 50,000 doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines on Monday.

Gov. Abiodun received the vaccines at the Government House, Okemosan area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, making Ogun become the first state to receive the COVID-19 vaccines in Nigeria.

Recall also that Nigeria received a major boost in the fight against the deadly virus as about 3.92 million doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday.

The vaccine was administered on Abiodun, at the Governor’s office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. He’s the first governor in Nigeria to receive the vaccine jab.

Similarly, His deputy, Salako-Oyedele, and two frontline health workers were also administered the vaccine.

Speaking, the governor assured that the vaccines would be deployed across the 20 local governments of the state, adding that the people of Ogun State should not entertain fear as the vaccine has been certified by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

He further urged everyone to make themselves available for the administration of the vaccine.

In his words: “Taking our doses is, first, service to self then to people, because we can only silence the virus if we think and act together. We should be aware that even our two doses don’t preclude the use of facemasks and compliance with other safety guidelines.”
