Members of the Osun State 6th and 7th House of Assembly will receive N160 million following approval by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
This was contained in a statement issued by spokesperson to the Speaker, Tiamiyu Olamide, on Saturday.
The Speaker, Honourable Adewale Egbedun, commended the governor, describing it as unprecedented.
According to him, “The Clerk to the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Akinwale Amusan has since disbursed the severance gratuities which is about One Hundred and Sixty Million Naira (N160,000,000) to all the beneficiaries, numbering fifty-two former Honourable Members.
“The action of the Governor depicts a true leader and genuine statesmanship. May Almighty God continue to strengthen him with good health, wisdom and sound mind to be able to continue offering the State real dividends of democracy and good governance for the betterment of the people of the state.”
Recall in July, 2022, Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared winner of the Osun State Governorship election after polling 403,371 votes displacing incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 375,027 votes.
Although the result was challenged in court by the APC putting an upset on Adeleke who had longed to be a governor of the state.
Despite winning at the Appeal Court, the APC, dissatisfied with the court’s judgment, headed to the Supreme Court for a verdict on the matter.
The legal tussle was finally laid to rest after the highest court of the land affirmed Adeleke as the democratically elected governor of Osun State on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
