In what turned out to be a demonstration of majority of Ghanaians preference for incumbent  President Nana Akufo-Addo over his main rival in the just concluded hotly contested presidential election in Ghana, Akufo-Addo has been re-elected president of Ghana.

Akufo-Addo who polled a total of 6,730,413 votes to overwhelm his closest rival, John Mahama.

The incumbent President Akufo-Addo’s  total number of votes standing at 6,730,413 represents about 51.59% of the total number of votes cast in the election.

John Mahama, a former president who challenged Akufo-Addo for the coveted position of president of Ghana at the election as the presidential candidate of the  National Democratic Congress, scored a total number of 6,240,889 votes.President Akufo-Addo

Going by the electoral commission’s projections, this represents 47.36% of the total number of votes cast.

A further breakdown of the election outcome shows that incumbent President Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, was victorious in eight of the 16 regions  in Ghana.  On the other hand, former President Mahama equally won in the rest eight regions of the country.

While announcing the results, Chairperson of Ghana’s electoral Commission, Jean Mensah, disclosed that  the announced results did not take into account figures from Techiman South following conflicting accounts and  disputes in the area.

According to the electoral commission boss  the total votes in the constituency where there is dispute is 128,018, stressing that this figure would not alter the outcome of the election as already announced.

She declared: “By the power vested in me as the returning officer, it is my duty to announce Nana Akufo-Addo as the president-elect of Ghana.”

In protest, the NDC allegedly staged a walk out as none of its members or representative were present at the electoral commission headquarters during the announcement.
