Following his appointment as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Wednesday tendered his resignation letter during the plenary session.
His letter of resignation was presented on the floor of the house and read by the speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, “We have today declared the seat of Surulere Lagos Constituency vacant following the resignation of Gbajabiamila,” said the Speaker.
Gbajabiamila was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2003 and had won five straight elections before now.
However, the Member representing Surulere 1 has now tendered his resignation and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will now have to conduct a fresh election to fill the role.
