The wife of the Governor of Kano State, Hafsat Ganduje, has flown to London, United Kingdom, despite the invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
It was gathered that the first lady made the trip to attend the graduation of one of her sons.
This was after the EFCC had invited her for questioning over alleged involvement in a land fraud scandal.
According to reports, Abdulazeez Ganduje, the eldest son of the first lady dragged his mother to the anti-graft agency over land issues. Abdulazeez alleged that his mother is using family access to enrich herself.
Reports also has it that Abdulazeez had approached a property developer to help in the procurement of some plots of land in Kano accuring up to N35 million. He was said to have paid the money to the account owned by the first lady.
“But three months later, (the property developer) discovered that the plots of land he wanted and had paid the first family for had been allocated to other buyers and he then requested to be refunded,” a source was quoted as saying.
The first lady’s trip was announced in a statement issued by Ganduje’s media aide, Abubakar Ibrahim.
