Following the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Edo governorship election, the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Sunday revealed that they have devised a secret plan to win the governorship election of Ondo State.

Ganduje in his address while leading the APC National Working Committee at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Akure, the Ondo State capital, said the party aims to ensure that all the six southwestern states are under its leadership.

According to him, they have developed a plan to capture Osun State and Oyo State, which are currently governed by Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ganduje said the APC would triumph in the whole Southwest, starting with the Ondo governorship election on November 16.

He said: “In this geopolitical zone, we must deliver 100 per cent in favour of APC. Therefore, Ondo State, you must be at the forefront; the two other states – Oyo and Osun – we will capture them, but I will not reveal our secret. We are strategising. Everything must be 100 per cent behind President Bola Tinubu.

“In this coming election, we are solidly behind Governor Aiyedatiwa. We have made arrangements at the national level to have a successful election, and I announce Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Chairman of the National Campaign Council.

“This election is a task that must be done. We are encouraged by this large crowd of stakeholders. It shows there is unity, solidarity, and vigour in the party.

“We are expecting 90 per cent votes in the forthcoming governorship election. You have to visit house to house, neighbour to neighbour and ensure that people come out to vote.”

The New Diplomat reports that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, who is the candidate of the APC is contesting against Agboola Ajayi of the PDP.

It would be recalled that Aiyedatiwa, a former deputy governor who assumed the position of governor following the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in December 2023, is considered one of the frontrunners in the upcoming Ondo gubernatorial election.

He is contesting against Ajayi who is also a former Deputy Governor of Ondo state.

It would be recalled that Ajayi served as Akeredolu’s Deputy from 2017 to 2021 before their relationship deteriorated. Subsequently, the late governor opted to part ways with Ajayi and appointed Aiyedatiwa as his Deputy for his second tenure.
