The Super Eagles have begun training ahead of their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Bafana Bafana of South Africa’s and Cheetahs of Benin Republic, scheduled for this month.

National team head coach, Finidi George held his first training session on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

Among the 15 players present at the training were Leicester City’s Ndidi Wilfred and Kelechi Iheanacho, Bayer Leverkusen forward, Victor Boniface, AC Milan winger, Samuel Chukwueze, and OGC Nice forward, Terem Moffi.

Other players included Chippa United goalkeeper l, Stanley Nwabali, Fisayo Bashiru, Remo Stars’ Ismail Sodiq, Kenneth Igboke of Enugu Rangers, Ojo Olorunleke of Enyimba, Benjamin Tanimu, Ibrahim Olawoyin, Raphael Onyedika, Chidozie Awaziem, and Alhassan Yusuf.

Eight more players, including Atalanta’s Adémólá Lookman and Alex Iwobi, are expected to join the camp on Monday.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella are ruled out of the two matches due to injuries and personal commitments.

The three-time African champions will face South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, June 7, at 8 p.m, before flying to Abidjan to tackle Benin Republic at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on three days later, starting at 5 p.m Nigerian time.
