President Bola Tinubu has appointed board chairpersons for 42 federal organisations and a secretary to the board of the civil defence, immigration, and prisons services.

A thorough look at the list shows that it’s predominantly made of political old-guards and a few new names which may not necessarily be fresh bloods. This has raised likely reasons why Tinubu tapped some of them to chair these agencies.

The Presidential Special Adviser on Information and Strstegy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed the names in a statement issued on Friday.

According to Onanuga, Tinubu appointed Kayode Opeifa as managing director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and Raji Kolawole as director-general for the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI).

He added that Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been appointed as the board chair of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN); while Felix Morka, APC spokesperson, would chair the board of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.

Bolaji Akinyemi, a former minister of foreign affairs and one of Nigeria’s most outstanding international relations scholar, has been appointed board chairman of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs(NIIA).

“President Tinubu directs the board chairpersons not to interfere with the management of the organisations, emphasising that their positions are non-executive,” the statement reads.

The statement added that all appointments take immediate effect.
