Former Deputy President of the Senate, Obarisi Senator Ovie Omo-Agege was full of gratitude at a Saturday homecoming ceremony in Ughelli where he called on Deltans to support President Bola Tinubu and his policies.

Obarisi Omo-Agege was hosted by members and leaders of the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) and other eminent leaders across the State for a meritorious service in the Senate.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of political supporters and admirers who trooped out to receive him from Osubi Airport where his touchdown, the former DSP who was the 2023 governorship candidate of ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State appreciated the people for the honour of the homecoming reception.

In his words: “Chiefly, I am here to thank you, our dear people, for your overwhelming electoral support over the years, especially during the 2023 Delta State Governorship Election. With your massive votes, you voted for a new direction in the governance of our State. Convinced as civilised democrats that your votes gave us a clear victory under our laws, we challenged the unfavorable outcome in court.”

Continuing, he said, “As we all now know, the Supreme Court ultimately decided to retain the status quo. A decision we accepted as democrats but disagree with as a matter of law, fact and truth.”

“Our conviction that your good labour actually produced a resounding electoral victory to take our State to a new and better direction therefore remains unshaken and unshakable.

“Thank you for your firm commitment to our vision of a modern society that runs on innovation, rule of law, our values of honest living and honorable service, and transformational ideas. Thank you for believing in the strength of our oneness and the beauty of our diversity. Thank you for always helping to push back every false narrative against the plainness of our hearts in the affairs of all our people.

“I am deeply touched and humbled by your broad sacrificial giving to organize this unbelievably massive homecoming ceremony. Jesus Christ himself said in Luke 4:24 that “no prophet is welcome in his hometown”. So, what you have done here today, must touch the heart of God in a manner that even the most gracious home people in biblical times could not do. Today eloquently testifies that our humble efforts to engineer the wheels of politics for the good of our people is not in vain. Thank you indeed.”

Admonishing the people to pray for and support President Bola Tinubu, Senator Omo-Agege said, “Let me seize this moment to call on our people once again to always pray for and support our dear President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR and his government. Yes, there are deep systemic challenges, but as Mr. President rightly states, these are also great opportunities for a Nigerian national renaissance. That President Tinubu is wholly committed to a Nigeria that works for all our people, rather than just a few, is absolutely unquestionable. All we owe ourselves as a people bound by progressive ideals is to ensure that we always give unqualified support to Mr. President’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda and protect our collective interests within the confines of the law. We must never allow ourselves to do anything to undermine our government, democracy and the Nation. This is our country and we must protect and nurture it to succeed.”

Upon arrival at Osubi Airport, Omo-Agege was greeted by a crowd of enthusiastic supporters. His entourage immediately proceeded in a motorcade through Effurun and Ughelli Main Town where he happy market women, bike riders and a retinue of ardent his followers trooped out to flood roads leading to the venue of the reception.

The elaborate occasion had in attendance Senator Ede Dafinone, Senator Joel Onohwakpo-Thomas (represented by Architect Amby Okuhor), Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, Rt. Hon. Friday Osanebi (former Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly and Omo-Agege’s 2023 running mate), and Rt. Hon. (Rev.) Francis Ejiroghene Waive of the House of Representatives. Others include Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya (former Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly and present Commissioner, NDDC), Hon. Daniel Reyeneju, Hon. Blessyn Brume-Ataguba (Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission), Hon. Francis Atanomeyovwi (Federal Commissioner, National Assembly Service Commissioner), and Hon. Moses Anaughe (Federal Commissioner, Federal Character Commission).
