The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has affirmed that the long queues greeting several filling stations across the country will vanish by May 1.

This is as the company confirmed that the ongoing shortfall in the supply of petroleum products has been addressed and Nigerians will start feeling the positive impact between today, Tuesday, and tomorrow, Wednesday.

The NNPCL spokesperson, Femi Soneye, made these assurances while addressing a press conference on Tuesday in Lagos.

Soneye said the company currently has more than 1.5 billion liters of product available, enough to last for at least 30 days. He noted that the recent scarcity experienced is not a result of the unavailability of products but due to some logistic challenges.

He said: “Unfortunately, we experienced a three-day disruption in distribution due to logistical issues, which have since been resolved,” he said.

“However, as you know, overcoming such disruptions typically requires double the amount of time to return to normal operations.

“Some folks are taking advantage of this situation to maximize profits.

“Thankfully, product scarcity has been minimal lately, but these folks might be exploiting the situation for unwarranted gain.

“The lines will be cleared out between today and tomorrow.”

The New Diplomat reports that petrol queues resurfaced in filling stations amid a scarcity of the commodity, reportedly leading to an increase in transport costs.
