The fallout of the just concluded elections in all the 24 Local Government Areas in Rivers State may not yet have been seen.
Each political actor may start to bear the consequence of where they pitched their tent in the feud between Governor Fubara and his estranged ally, Wike, in the buildup to the exercise.
This is as former militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has claimed that he saw two helicopters flying over the roof of his house, saying he has the capacity to contain them, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Wike, two-time governor of oil rich Rivers State has been dagger-drawn with his estranged political godson and governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara over the control of the politics and soul of Rivers State.
Dokubo in a video said that the two helicopters, which he claimed were military helicopters, made an aerial reconnaissance of his home and compound for over 30 minutes at the weekend.
The militant leader noted that he saw the development as a deliberate act of provocation.
Dokubo who said the agent provocateurs are the police, and supporters of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, should be blamed if he decides to take what he called retaliatory action against them.
Dokubo, however, stressed that he was undeterred by this incident and shouldn’t be blamed for any fate that befalls the helicopters as he had not overstepped the bounds.
“I have the capacity to contain them…Nigeria cannot surrender to Wike, Rivers people will not surrender to Wike, Ijaw people will not surrender to Wike,” he declared.
The 60-year-old activist, known for his strong opposition to government forces in the Niger Delta, stated that he has never been afraid of death and has always embraced it.
He said: “I have never been afraid of death. I’ve always embraced death, so I am not afraid of death. Wike is nobody…
“I didn’t go and look for the helicopter to shoot them down. I will shoot down the helicopter. I swear by Allah that I will shoot down the helicopter.”
Dokubo said, stripped of the paraphernalia of office, Wike is no match for him.
“Wike is nobody without his billions. Let them remove this thing from him, and we’ll see,” he added. Dokubo affirmed his intent to vote in the just concluded local government elections in Rivers State, stressing that “nothing will happen” during the elections.
The supremacy battle between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor in office, who is also the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,(FCT) Nyesom Wike, has fragmented Rivers State into two divisive political camps.
While the Wike camp canvased against the conduct of Local government elections in the state, the Fubara faction on the other hand, insisted the elections must take place.
Though Dokubo had not been a prominent character in the political drama before Saturday, this development may have shown the camp he belongs.
The elections had eventually taken place. The Action Peoples Party(APP) won 22 chairmanship positions out of 23 in the Rivers State local government election.
The Chief Election Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, made this known on Saturday in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The APP is believed to have the backing of Fubara who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
