Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has finally reacted to the prevailing political tension in the state, affirming his unwavering commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the state’s populace.

The governor took to his verified X account to share a video clip, expressing his heartfelt appreciation to the residents of Rivers State.

He made a solemn commitment to lead an all-encompassing administration that values justice and fairness, irrespective of social status or position.

“I assure you, we will continue to protect the interest of our people. I make bold to say that Rivers State is a safe haven for investment,” he stated.

This trails the political unrest in the state.

It would be recalled that on Wednesday, Governor Fubara’s cabinet saw the resignation of nine Commissioners, while 27 members of the state assembly defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to the All Progressives Congress (APC) within a week.

After the lawmakers defected, the state government issued an order to demolish the Assembly Complex. The government justified this action by stating the necessity to construct a more appropriate building after an alleged “arson attack” took place on October 29, 2023.

The lawmakers who have defected are said to have the support of Nyesom Wike, the former governor of the state and the current minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The state’s political structure is currently the subject of contention between the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike who is the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
