Three additional commissioners have joined the ongoing wave of resignations in Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s cabinet.
On Friday morning, Commissioner of Housing, Gift Worlu, Commissioner of Education, Chinedu Mmom, and Commissioner of Transport, Jacobson Nbina, tendered their resignations from Governor Fubara’s cabinet.
This trails the exit of four commissioners who tendered their resignations on Thursday.
In his letter of resignation to the governor, Worlu stated that he is stepping down from his position as the Commissioner for Housing due to personal matters that demand urgent attention.
“I am writing this letter to tender my resignation from the post Hon. Commissioner for Housing Rivers State. I am resigning Because of personal reasons that require immediate attention,” the letter read in part.
Also, Mmom in his own letter said, “I hereby resign my appointment as the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Rivers State for personal reasons.
“I wish to express my sincere appreciation to you for the opportunity given to me to serve in your administration and wish you the best as you carry on with the governance of our dear state.”
While the last commissioner, Nbina, said he is resigning due to personal and family commitments.
It would be recalled that on Thursday, the wave of resignations started with that of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice for the state, Prof. Zaccheus Adangor.
His resignation letter was dated November 14, 2023.
The Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Commissioner, Inemi Aguma, was accompanied by Commissioner for Works, George Kelly Alabo, and Finance Commissioner, Isaac Kamalu.
The recent departures bring the total count of resigned officials to seven leaving the Executive Council of the Rivers State Government with 11 Commissioners.
Not only has Governor Fubara’s cabinet diminished, lawmakers in the State House of Assembly recognised by the governor are only five while the Honourable Martin Amaewhule faction are 26.
