The challenges facing the Conservative Party of the United Kingdom continue to mount, with a recent poll predicting an unprecedented defeat just days before the upcoming general election set for July 4, 2024.
According to a recent YouGov poll released on Wednesday, the Conservative Party is potentially facing significant electoral losses. The poll indicates that the party may secure only 108 parliamentary seats, potentially resulting in the loss of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s seat.
The poll which was carried out June 11-18, with YouGov speaking to nearly 40,000 voters, predicted that Labour would win 425 seats while Conservatives are expected to win 108.
Also, the poll projected that Nigel Farage’s Reform UK was set to win 5 seats. The analysis of the poll indicated that things may go wrong for the Conservatives as the party is projected to have the lowest total seat in its history.
Coming in at just 108 of the total 650 up for grabs, the party is 257 seats down on its triumph under Boris Johnson in 2019.
Recent poll results have further compounded the challenges faced by Sunak, indicating a potential outcome where he could become the first sitting prime minister to lose his seat.
The poll also predicted that the Conservatives could be wiped out in the North East and only secure just three seats in the North West. Humiliatingly, the party would also lose constituencies formerly held by ex-PMs John Major, Theresa May, Ted Heath, Boris Johnson and David Cameron.
