Marwa, A Man of Uncommon Grace at 72

By Femi Babafemi I have had the privilege of knowing Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) for about 30 years. As a young reporter, I observed from a working distance the metamorphosis of a military administrator who was unlike any other—an enigma committed as much to his work as to becoming a paragon of excellence…

Former Edo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Imasuen Tuesday at Ekiadolor, Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state declared his intention to run for the Edo South Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressives Congress ( APC).

Imasuen told party supporters that he was in the race to fight for equity, fair play, and justice on matters concerning Edo South Senatorial District.

He said that he will work assiduously to ensure that the law setting up the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is properly interpreted and implemented to the letter.

The former deputy governor said: “The public has been made to believe that the Managing Director of the Board of NDDC is exclusively reserved for the four major Oil Producing States to the exclusion of others and this is one of the anomalies I will fight to ensure equity, fairness, and justice.”

He promised to galvanize all available human and material resources both at the local, national, and international levels to jump-start social and economic revival and development of the Edo South Senatorial District.

He said; “Flowing from my in-depth knowledge of Edo South Senatorial district and the issues circumscribing the quality of life, I will articulate a comprehensive legislative list, legislative agenda that encompasses critical challenges facing the people in their order of priority if I have the privilege of becoming Edo South Senator.

Imasuen assured the people of adequate representation if elected to the upper legislative chambers, saying that he will vigorously intervene in infrastructure building by identifying social and economic deficits in the constituency, particularly in the four rural local government areas of the senatorial district and lobby for potentially impactful projects to be included into the annual national budget.

He also drummed up support for state police: “The state of insecurity is seriously threatening food production in Edo State and in this regard, I am aligned with some security experts who have advocated for the establishment of State and Community Police as a solution to the security challenges in our land.

“| am not unmindful of the genuine fears expressed about the subject of potential abuses of a State Police outfit but I am confident that measures will be put in place to effectively checkmate abusive deployment of such an outfit when established.”

Imasuen added that the Senate has the constitutional responsibility of screening presidential nominees for important appointments such as Ministers, Ambassadors among others, noting that if eventually elected, he will sponsor a bill, making it mandatory for the president to submit the Ministerial list of nominees along with the Ministries they are to be appointed into.

This, he said, will enable nominees to be grilled in line with their proposed ministries, adding that the purpose is to ensure that a square peg is in a square hole thereby ensuring better service delivery to Nigerians.

The ex-deputy governor was endorsed by the Ovia North-East chapter of the party following a unanimous motion by a university don, Prof. Ovienseri Aibueku of the University of Benin, and seconded by the local council chairman of the ruling party.
