Incorporating nutrient-rich foods like leafy greens, citrus fruits, fatty fish, nuts, seeds, eggs, and carrots into your diet can boost eye health, improve weak vision, and reduce risks of age-related eye problems such as cataracts and macular degeneration.

Of all our senses, vision has to be one of the most valuable, and maintaining it does not only consist of going for check-ups with the eye specialist or waiting for a pair of correct spectacles.

It has been established that nutritional balance that is rich in important elements stands to not only enhance normal vision but can also bring back the weak eye vision to normal. It can even delay the loss of sight due to aging and related conditions like cataracts, dry eye syndrome, and macular degeneration. For example, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, C, and E, as well as minerals like zinc, make the eyes stronger and improve their functionality.

Increasing the amounts of green leafy vegetables or fatty fish is only to make the diet complete but, at the end, has a clear purpose of maintaining healthy and active eyes for many years.
Dr Digvijay Singh, Director, Noble Eye Care, Gurugram shared his expert insights “Eight in ten ophthalmologists believe that the intake of factors like omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals is quite helpful for the functioning of the eye as well as the prevention of age-associated ocular disorders.

Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which exist in the flesh meat of fish such as salmon, are essential for the preservation of retinal health and minimizing dry eye syndrome.

Vitamin E and C, obtained from fruits, vegetables and nuts, and other antioxidants prevent eyes from oxidative stress due to ultraviolet rays as well as from pollution which can cause cataracts and age related macular degeneration.

Lutein and zeaxanthin, for instance, are found in spinach and other leafy vegetables, and are believed to act as a sunscreen for the eyes by screening out blue light.

Zinc is found in most of the shellfish and legumes, and is also important in retinal health and defensiveness of clear vision. It is evident that in addition to a good diet, these nutrients should be incorporated into the diet in order to bring back the weak eye vision to normal and also retard the development of other diseases that may be detrimental for the eye’s health and clarity for a long period of time.

With the help of these nutrients in your diet and oral consumption of food, you can also reduce the chances of suffering from related ailments or even keep your eyes safe.”

Dr. Neeraj Sanduja, MBBS, MS, Ophthalmologist, and Eye Surgeon, Viaan Eye and Retina Centre said, “A well-balanced diet rich in essential nutrients can help maintain healthy vision and reduce the risk of age-related vision problems. Incorporate these vision-boosting foods into your diet:

These foods help protect your eyes from:

Age-related macular degeneration

Cataracts

Glaucoma

Dry eye syndrome

Incorporating these foods into your diet can help keep your vision sharp and healthy.

Consult with an ophthalmologist or registered dietitian for personalized advice.

Consume good nutrients such as tuna, sardines, leafy greens, nuts, and citrus fruits to be able to counter the effects of aging-related issues like cataracts and macular degeneration. These eye-friendly vitamins and minerals also help protect the eyes against excessive blue light, oxidative insult, and inflammation, bring weak eye vision to normal, and also promote retinal well-being as well as subside dry eye syndrome.

These simple dietary changes can bring back your weak eyesight to normal if consumed everyday.

Choosing to do such changes now and carry them through in the future is preferable to waiting for the results to come; this is because as one ages, one’s sight will clear up. Proper nutrition should be a priority because it reflects very positively on one’s eye health and reduces the likelihood of any eye problems occurring later on.
