The immediate past President of the United States, Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, triggering concerns.
According to a statement by the Buden family on Sunday, the 82-year-old former President is facing an aggressive form of the disease.
The statement reads in part: “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterised by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.”
However, according to experts, there appears to be five key facts about Biden’s condition that are not known to the public:
1. Despite the severity of Biden’s Stage 4 prostate cancer, which has spread to his bones, the cancer is hormone-sensitive, meaning it responds to therapies that lower or block testosterone.
2. Biden’s diagnosis came after he experienced increasing urinary symptoms, which prompted a medical exam last week.
3. While prostate cancer typically develops slowly, Biden’s aggressive form, with a Gleason score of 9, suggests a faster progression.
4. Biden’s prostate cancer is not his first encounter with the disease. In March 2023, he had a basal cell carcinoma, a common skin cancer, removed from his chest.
5. Biden and his family are currently reviewing treatment options, which may include hormone therapy or other advanced treatments.
