Five crew members of the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, have survived a helicopter crash in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

A statement issued by NAF spokesman, Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the incident happened shortly after take off in the early hours of Friday.

According to him, all crew members onboard survived the crash with “minor injuries”.

The helicopter with the number NAF MI-35P crashed at exactly 7.45 am shortly after it took off for an operation against economic saboteurs in Rivers State.

“The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, is currently en route to Port Harcourt to assess the situation for himself, see to the wellbeing of the crew and give further directives,” the statement read.
