Sunday’s night fire incident at the Rivers State House of Assembly complex will be perhaps the first distraction to be witnessed by the state Governor, Similanayi Fubara, five months after his inauguration.
Reports emerged from the oil rich state in the late hours that the chamber of the State House of Assembly was set ablaze, the cause of the incident is yet unknown.
This trails rumours of the plan to impeach Governor Fubara following alleged rift between him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to sources, the chamber was set ablaze after some arsonists gained entry but further damage was prevented due to the quick intervention of the men of fire service in the state.
Efforts to source response from the Rivers State Police Command Public Relation Officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko proved abortive at the time of this report.
