The headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has been razed by fire.

The fire that badly affected the building’s third floor, was reportedly started around 11pm on Wednesday night.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.

Eyewitnesses said the fire started from the office of the Special Adviser to the FMBN Managing Director, Ahmed Dangiwa, and later moved to the boardroom of the bank.

“It spread to the boardroom and burnt sensitive documents there before it was put out by 1am.”

Another source said the fire lasted for about two hours before it was put out around 1am on Thursday.

The fire destroyed sensitive documents; another source told the newspaper.

As a result of the incident, workers from the position of Senior Managers and below were asked to go home on Thursday morning until Monday when they will be informed on the new date of their resumption, the official said.
