On Sunday, July 13, 2025, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, met with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in Abuja.
It was gathered that the two political leaders met at the official residence of Wike in Abuja.
The closed-door meeting, confirmed by Wike’s aide Lere Olayinka, has ignited widespread speculation about potential political realignments as Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections.
The meeting comes at a time of heightened tension within the Labour Party, which is grappling with internal divisions.
Abure’s faction recently issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, demanding his resignation over his involvement in a new opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The coalition, launched on July 2, 2025, included prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
