At the weekend, about 30 bodies were reportedly buried following bloody fight in Tigno town located in Lamurde local Government Area of Adamawa State, locals narrated.
However, police authorities disputed the figures, confirming to journalists at the weekend that they have so far officially recovered six dead bodies. The police had earlier debunked media reports stressing that no deaths were recorded in the escalating bloody brutishness.
Agency reports say lucky survivors and security agencies including police authorities are ransacking the bushes for dead bodies of those caught in the ugly murderous crossfire.
Recall that an ethnic violence had broken out on Friday premised on alleged differences between the Hausa community and Chabo tribe. The immediate cause or remote causes could not be easily ascertained but multiple sources told The New Diplomat that it was as a result of a quarrel arising from a motorcycle accident. This gave rise to tension and the consequent violence.
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri subsequently paid an unscheduled visit to the crisis –ridden vicinity on Friday. Speaking on the visit, the Adamawa State Police Command said the governor’s visit has brought tremendous calm and relative peace to the area. Suleiman Nguroje, spokesman for the state police command said the feuding parties have relaxed their differences and are now responding to peace initiatives.
