A legal suit filed by Precious Chikwendu, the estranged wife of former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Femi Fani-Kayode has led to the trading of fiery allegations between the former lover-birds.
Chikwendu had filed the suit to retain the custody of their four children after she walked out of the marriage.
Precious sued Fani-Kayode before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), seeking among others, the custody of the four children produced by the married, “but with reasonable right of access to the respondent (Fani-Kayode).”
The woman, who wants Fani-Kayode and his agents restrained “from forcibly abducting” the children from her custody, urged the court to order Fani-Kayode to pay N3.438 million her monthly for the upkeep of the children and additional sums for their education and other ancillary expenses.
She stated that the children, who are all below six years, have been emotionally traumatised since they were separated from her since August 2, 2020. She added that she has not seen any of them for over seven months now.
In an affidavit supporting the suit marked: CV/372/2021 filed by her lawyer, Mrs. E. D. Moi-Wuyep, Precious gave details of how Fani-Kayode allegedly subjected her to both verbal and physical abuses, during their six-year relationship.
At the mention of the case on Friday before Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the High Court of the FCT in Apo, Abuja, the judge found that Fani-Kayode, through his phone conversation with the plaintiff, acknowledged receipt of the summons served on him.
The court’s finding was in spite of the claim by his lawyers that he has not been properly served with court’s documents.
Justice Oriji then adjourned till March 12, 2021 for formal report of service.
Precious stated, in the supporting affidavit, that she met Fani-Kayode sometimes in 2014 when she was 24 years, following which she moved into his house at No. 5, Zuma Close, Off Udi Hills Street, Aso Drive, Abuja.
“That the relationship was blessed with four beautiful children: Master Aragorn Fani-Kayode (5 years), Master Ragnar Fani-Kayode (2 years), Master Aiden Fani-Kayode(2 years), and Master Liam Fani-Kayode (2 years).
“My relationship with the respondent had been a turbulent and unhappy one. The respondent was in the habit of beating me up during every quarrel.
“My relationship with the respondent witnessed fear, harassment, and series of assault both perpetrated by the respondent himself or with the use of the Nigerian Police force, his security details and, or his personal bodyguards.
“From the early days of our relationship, the respondent has always maintained a lifestyle of utter disregard to my feelings.
“This was evident in the way and manner the respondent assaulted me while pregnant with our first son, Aragorn. The respondent kicked me severally on my stomach over a petty argument that ensued.
“It was my friend, Vanessa who was around at the material time that intervened at the nick of time to save me. I had to leave the respondent’s house a few days after this incident.
“The respondent repeated the same act when I was pregnant with the triplets, this time it was my mother and sister, Faith that intervened.
“The respondent, at the slightest provocation abuse, beats and assaults me, my late mother and my siblings when they visited. As we progressed in the relationship, the beatings became so severe that on many occasions, I feared for my life.
“The respondent will strip me naked in the full glare of everyone in the premises, threaten to kill me while hitting me, and on other occasions, exhibit all form of cruelty towards me.
“I sometimes leave the house to my friend’s place for safety. I have a number of recorded videos and voice notes to prove this series of inhumane treatments.
“When I was pregnant with the triplets, the respondent started accusing me of infidelity.
“This allegation escalated to what I reasonably believe was a paranoia, which eventually influenced the respondent in forcefully preventing me from travelling out of the country to give birth to the triplets, on some convictions that I will abscond with the kids for another man.
“I made several unsuccessful attempts to leave the relationship because of the escalating abuse and violence, but the respondent will in his usual trend, use the Nigerian Police Force to restrain and unlawfully detain me.
“Sometimes in 2018, in one of my attempts to leave the house with the children, the respondent in the company of the immediate DPO of Asokoro Police Division and her team of police men handcuffed me and stripped me naked while someone from the crowd, whom I initially mistook for a police man, forcefully injected me with sedation.
“I was then abducted and incarcerated at a hospital, for a period of two weeks. I was separated from my six months old triplets and a year-old son at the time,” Precious said.
Fani-Kayode: She Tried To Seduce My Friends
But the former minister has reacted to the allegations by his estranged wife, through his media consultant, Oladimeji Olaiya.
Fani-Kayode denied the allegations by Chikwendu, saying she never stopped the woman from seeing her children or coming to his house.
The former Aviation Minister claimed that his estranged wife has mental issues and once cut two people with knives while allegedly trying to kill him and their four children.
According to him, Chikwendu is “unfit to be a mother and that she has shown nothing but cruelty to her children whom she has never taken care of or shown the love and affection of a mother.
“For the avoidance of doubt, at no time did Chief Fani-Kayode expose his children to danger and he had always provided them with the best of care including 12 nannies and nurses who did all the work even when their mother was in the house and whom she employed.
“Chikwendu’s only pastime was to post pictures and words on Instagram and sleep with men outside. She also tried to seduce several Chief Fani-Kayode’s friends when he was in detention and extort money from them.
“Neither is it true that she was ever beaten by Chief Fani-Kayode or anyone else in his staff and security team, either when she was pregnant or not pregnant and it is not true that she was subjected to any form of physical or mental abuse from them. She was the abuser and not Chief Fani-Kayode or any of his security team or staff.
“On one occasion, she cut two people with a knife and almost bit off the finger of a third when she was trying to attack and kill her own children and husband with two knives. Thirty people witnessed this and we have it on video.
“On another occasion when she was caught in bed with a married naval officer in a hotel, she cut her own foot with a broken bottle and said she would tell the world that her husband did it. At least three people witnessed this.
“We urge members of the public to wait until the truth is revealed about Chikwendu, her mental and physical abuse of her children, her mental illness, her numerous attempts to murder Chief Fani-Kayode and his four children, her adulterous ways, her unfathomable cruelty, her gold-digging ways, her violence and so much more before they make up their minds.”
Fani-Kayode added that these details with the necessary evidence would be produced in court.
“The world is about to be shocked with the truth about her inhumane actions and other deficiencies which our client has over the years endured from her and covered in order not to expose her to any indignity.
“Finally, the only reason Chikwendu has not seen her children for close to seven months is that she has refused to come to the house to do so. Chikwendu claims that she was stripped and drugged. This is not true.
“Rather she was held down by a contingent of four policemen and policewomen in the presence and under the orders of the Divisional Police Officer of the Asokoro Police Station and in the presence of her Aunty Joy and at least 30 frightened and agitated police officers, workers and members of the household and family after which she was sedated with an injection by a doctor from the psychiatric hospital,” the former minister’s aide said.
He added, “On a separate occasion in front of three pastors, she also beat one of the triplets mercilessly simply because he had dared to cry during prayers. Again we have evidence of this, and the pastors and nannies will testify.
“It was after the frightful event of her holding the entire household hostage with the two knives and threatening to kill everybody that she was taken to and admitted in a private mental institution where she was diagnosed as having severe bipolar disorder, depression and schizophrenia.
“The doctors advised that she be kept there for at least three months for her own sake and for the sake of her family and those living with her to ensure that she did not kill herself or kill anyone else and that she gets the care and medical attention she so badly needed.”
