Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has accused Nigeria’s former Vice President and the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, of being singularly responsible for the crisis that has rocked the PDP since 1999.

Fani-Kayode made this charge in a post on his verified Twitter handle, on Friday, where he tagged Atiku’s picture at the hearing of petitions and applications at the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) sitting in Abuja, Thursday.

In his words, “One thing we can’t take from @atiku, the Waziri Adamawa, is the fact that he single-handedly did what no-one else managed to do since 1999: he murdered & buried the PDP & ensured that it can NEVER be resurrected or rise again. For this alone Nigeria owes him a debt of gratitude.”

It would be recalled that Atiku at a programme yesterday, “Welcome/Reception of PDP governors-elect and send forth of the past PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) “ called on leaders and stakeholders to revamp the party in other to regain its eminent and dominant leadership role in Nigeria and Africa.

Atiku stressed that the PDP formed in 1999 was a dominant political party which was now passing through stormy waters.

“We have a number of challenges. We started as a dominant political party in 1999 and since then, we have been receding.

“I think it is time for us to take a stock and find out why we are receding and how can we make sure that our eminent position as the leading political party in this country, as the oldest political party in this country, we regain our position.

“This is a very important challenge which I think requires a while day seminar for us as a party to ensure that we regain our eminent position in the politics of this country and the whole of Africa.”
